Dealing with the “those lazy-hazy-crazy days of summer…

From carnivals to weather reports to newspaper articles throughout the USA, this is the time of year we celebrate seven words of a song that describes what this season is about, “those lazy-hazy-crazy days of summer.”

When he was alive, successful recording artist, international performer, and TV personality, Nat King Cole had a hit record with the song titled with those seven words composed by Hans Carste (music) and Charles Tobias (words.)  And some of you may even remember that Engelbert Humperdink also had a hit record when he put his interpretation of the song into the public domain.  Whether it is Cole or Humperdink, many of us have crooned other parts of that song,

“…Those days of soda and pretzels and beer…
Dust off the sun and moon and sing a song of cheer
Just fill your basket full of sandwiches and weenies…”

Of course, we recognize that there are other summer songs and phrases that describe the essence of this time of year.  Sly and the Family Stone’s “Hot Fun in the Summertime” rocked our world as we picnicked and hung out with family and friends.  We lament the “Dog Days [which] is the name for the most sultry period of summer, from about July 3 to Aug. 11."

So whether you prefer “hot fun,” “dog days of summer” or “those lazy-hazy-crazy days of summer,” we all know how to capture and embrace this period of vacations, explorations, beaches, weddings, hiking, camping, family reunions, fun, and catching up on those writings that we want to read.

So, it is within this festive and laid back period of summer, we proudly announce the contributors whose words and images will grace the summer 2016 issue of aaduna:
