Catch up with Christine Green, literary activist

Christine Green

aaduna featured Christine Green’s work in all three literary genres: poetry, fiction and non-fiction in the spring/summer 2011 issue, a feat not yet duplicated. The journal re-visited with her when her poetry was published in the winter/spring 2013 Second Anniversary issue.  Christine has also participated in aaduna-sponsored readings in Auburn and Rochester, NY.

Here is a brief excerpt from her continuing journey as a writer, promoter of the written word and literary activist.

Katherine Weston, owner of Different Path Art Gallery in Brockport, NY, first began presenting literary readings in August of 2010 in conjunction with the opening of her gallery. At that time, Tom Holmes hosted and organized monthly readings. When Holmes moved away from Brockport, Christine Green took over hosting responsibilities.

Green has been organizing, presenting, and advertising the reading series since September 2012. She searches out, and interviews potential readers and works with them to create a monthly two-hour event at the gallery. Green writes promotional literature (press releases, advertisements, social media updates, posters/flyers, event programs) for all of the literary events at the gallery. Business leaders and private citizens in the Brockport community support the reading series through donations of funds to offset the cost of printing, purchase of food and drink, and to help with advertising costs. In the fall of 2013, Christine Noble, who contributed poetry to aaduna’s summer/fall 2013 issue, began assisting Green with advertising and promotion. The readings are always free and open to anyone in the community.

Green is a volunteer driven by her passion for writing. She strives to create an atmosphere that is comfortable and welcoming to all who attend, and she works to make presenting writers feel relaxed and appreciated. Writers come to the series with a variety of backgrounds and include those who have several published works under their belt while others are emerging writers just breaking into the scene. Featured writers have read poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction, journalism, personal essays, memoir, and flash fiction.

Weston, Noble, and Green enjoy bringing the literary arts to Brockport and believe that the monthly Different Path Literary Readings have strengthened ties between artists, writers, and community members. To date, these readings have featured
