Raising the Bar – Auburn Style, one note at a time

Music, in all its specific styles and genres, has a way of elevating the spirit and enabling listeners to move through various levels of emotion and feeling. Venues throughout Auburn, NY (located in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York) and the surrounding County villages and towns continue to provide a caliber of music that enables residents to align themselves to a favorite band, musician, or style while discovering others to follow and support. And every so often, there are those rare performances that enthralls and captivates, and witnesses understand they are part of a unique experience. This past weekend was captivating. Howard Nelson, aaduna spring fundraiser,  5/28/2015 Howard Nelson is a poet and writer who has the ability to weave magic, wit, and meaningful purpose into ordinary experiences.  Always an audience pleaser, Howard captivates, and his words succinctly capture the flavor, ambiance, and intrigue of Life.  Q uite often, through his imagery and style, he propels the listener to dream bigger and find meaningful treasures buried in the mundaneness of our day to day existence.      An accomplished published poet since the Eighties, his recent work includes  All the Earthly Lovers: Selected &; New Poems  published in 2014.   Mr. Nelson’s poem “The Moon” was published in the 20th anniversary issue of Northern Woodlands magazine, and he was nominated for a Pushcart Prize for “Best of Small Press Publications for 2014.”  He also writes criticism and essays.  He is a member of the Thoreau Society...

Harlem will Swing!

Late last year, aaduna, Inc. received a capacity building grant from the Council of Literary Magazines and Presses [clmp] and the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) to position the company to host two fundraisers this spring.   (Harlem, NY on May 18th and Auburn, NY on May 29th)  In re-creating the style and ambiance of the Harlem Renaissance where supporters and fans intermingled to hear creative works and engage the artists, aaduna contributing poets, writers, guest readers, jazz and hip/hop musicians will perform at Bill’s Place on the fabled West 133 rd Street in Harlem, New York on Sunday, May 18 th .   The event is now SOLD OUT.   On the 19 th , Harlem will swing to words and notes that will reverberate throughout the neighborhood and enrich the hearts and minds of participants.    aaduna fundraiser, MAY 18th, Harlem, NY - SOLD OUT!
