When was the last time you met someone for the first time and was impressed with their kindness, graciousness, and ability to softly embrace you into their world?  I had that experience last December when my wife, Lisa, and I met Michael Jennings at the Central New York (CNY) Book Award ceremony in Syracuse, New York where his recent book, Crossings: A Record of Travel, won the 2016 CNY Book Award for Poetry.  Now, Michael is the type of jubilant and insightful person you would want to share a pint with in a cozy pub or a cup of tea in the back of an old bookstore.  Maybe a glass of red wine at a book awards ceremony?!  Now, without a doubt, Mr. Jennings knows how to weave poetic tales that wraps your spirit in a bear hug, and pushes your insights into a deeper level of poetic and literary consciousness.  So, here is what you need to know.

Michael Jennings was born in the French Quarter of New Orleans and grew up in east Texas and the deserts of southwestern Iran before attending the University of Pennsylvania as an undergraduate, and then Syracuse University as a graduate Fellow. He is the author of 10 books of poetry.  Michael is also a world-renowned breeder and judge of Siberian Huskies, and author of three books on the breed. He lives with his wife and muse, poet Suzanne Shane, and several of their Siberians on a hill overlooking Otisco Lake. Since 1993, he has been a faculty member at Cayuga Community College, commonly called CCC.

Want to be part of a poetry party?

Come out this Thursday, June 8th at 6 PM, at Theater Mack/Cayuga Museum and enter Mr. Jennings' world of mesmerizing and joyful words for his featured reading and a Q&A period as part of “word, revisited,” a bi-monthly literary reading sponsored by the Museum in partnership with Olive Trees and aaduna. As always, sign up for the open mic session is at 5:30 pm and that session will occur after a brief intermission.  Admission is $3/person and wine, beer, soft drinks and snacks are available for purchase.     For program details, visit:  http://cayugamuseum.org/word-revisited/

My colleagues at Olive Trees and the Cayuga Museum look forward to welcoming you on June 8th as does Michael Jennings.
