Double Trouble redefined and re-imagined…aaduna style!

OK, admit to it.  You have probably used the term “double trouble” to refer to bad news, difficult situations or unpleasant experiences.  Not only has the sky fallen but it has fallen twice! The “woe” is raining down on you, not once but as a repeat occurrence to your chagrin.  I suspect you get what I am saying so let’s move on.

Did you know that in 1976, Elvis Presley did a film called “Double Trouble,” and a song titled “Double Trouble” was in the movie, “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban?”  If you are an aaduna blog follower, you know we routinely use the phrase, “So what has this to do with aaduna?”  Hang on.  I am getting there.

In the field of behavioral health, Double Trouble in Recovery (DTR) takes the term to a level that is somewhat reflective of what aaduna is about.  DTR is “the fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with one another so that they may solve their common problems and help others to recover…”

We understand that to write, to create visual images is to fellowship, share, solve common problems, and help others to embolden their lives with hope, inspiration and alternative ways to view the world.

At aaduna, “double trouble” is also an in-house endearment that refers to a contributor whose creativity exits in two genres in the same issue.

Sze-Leng Tan is double trouble.

Tan’s poems “If Life is for Living,” “The Seeker,” and “The Reverie of Your Requiem,” will grace the pages of aaduna's summer 2016 issue, scheduled to launch this month.

Our poetry editor, Timothy Ogene had this to say about Sze’s work:
Timothy Ogene, aaduna poetry editor

There are gorgeous lines here, memorable lines too. The lyric is alive and well here, and the poet's impulses are not contrived. One get's a feeling of liberation and much needed exit from confined space as the lines flow. Somewhere, in these poems, especially the first, I see glimmers of strong Chinese influences woven into everyday Western lingo. I'll take these poems!

Now, I know you are looking for a teaser, an excerpt from one of her poems.    Well, Tim just gave you the teaser, “the lyric is alive…a feeling of liberation….”

Oh, I did mention that Sze-Leng is double trouble.

Her fiction work, “The Bellboy” will also appear in the summer 2016 issue of aaduna.

Here is the opening paragraph teaser:

It was probably a chance in a million that I got to meet a bellboy who looked the way he did.  I thought it was his uniform, which seldom flattered even the most statuesque physique.  I didn’t know the theory behind it.  But, as I said, it was probably the way he carried himself.  It was also probably a sweet co-incidence that my flight was a full six-hour delay.  Or else, I might have missed him.  There.  Right at the doorstep.  Waiting for my entrance.

Sze-Leng Tan will make her entrance later this month, via the summer 2016 issue of aaduna.  You have your headz-up.

Stay creative,

bill
