The
Goodman Saga Continues
“Heroes
are made by the pathway they choose, not the powers they are graced with.” -
Iron Man
“Marvel
Comics was founded by Martin Goodman in 1939. [And] The Marvel universe
introduced us to thousands of heroes and villains over the time, making it
impossible not to get fond of at least one character. And the best part of it
is that you can read the comics or watch the movies as an adult, since Marvel
developed a reputation for focusing on complex characterization and relatable
issues.”
Maybe
it is the surname. Maybe there are similar personality traits that revolve
around strength, determination, perseverance, and unlimited creativity that
enables a person to become all that s/he imagines. Now, we know better to
reduce real people to the fantasy world of comics and imaginary superheroes.
However, the achievements and creative powers of Daniel Ross Goodman to create complex
characterization and relatable issue easily parallel the 1939 real-life creativity
of Martin Goodman.
Daniel Ross Goodman is a prior contributor to aaduna. His stories always reveal an aspect of the human character that is a testament to the creative way Daniel weave themes and characters to reflect identifiable traits in the reader’s mind. His recent fiction work “The Fellowship” will appear in the winter 2021-22 issue of aaduna coming in February. This story is about a doctoral student who is going to interview for a postdoctoral fellowship and is met with a series of bizarre, unsettling, and discomfiting events. It's a little Kafkaesque, and for some readers, “some parts of it might be a remembrance of Daniel’s first aaduna story from a few years back.” Here is a brief clip of the opening to “The Fellowship”
It
had been seven long, arduous years, but I had finally done it—I had finally
completed my dissertation! The aim of all my endeavors, the fruit of my most
arduous labors—my cherished doctorate, the golden chalice that I had been
striving for since early adolescence—was in my hands at last. Now, there was
only final thing that remained to be done—the small matter of actually getting
a job.
