What you contribute to the Universe does get returned to you…
Christine Green, an aaduna contributor and founder of the west side literary salon “Words on the Verge” in Brockport, NY, served as the salon’s special occasion featured reader in January.
As
a creative promoter and advocate of writing and words, Ms. Green has created a
literary salon that features women/non-binary/femme and trans writers in a
safe, welcoming environment. The series
is funded by donations, as well as by Sandy Bordeau who owns In God’s Love
Reiki also in Brockport. Offering a "Verge" honorarium to featured readers, Christine
donated hers to Planned Parenthood of Western New York.
Here
are snippets of what Christine read and the nuances associated with her reading:
“In
a room without an empty chair, Green entertained the audience with writing that
walked the line between memoir, essay, poetry and prose. Her love of candy was apparent
in both the piece Sweet Tooth as well
as the variety of treats she put out that night. Before the reading actually
started, a candy dish was passed to the seated audience!
“Her
lyric essay Pine Sol was more than just a childhood reminiscence about when there
was pine in the product but illustrated how profound scent memory can be.
“Many
of the pieces contained objects so evocative that during the question and
answer period of the program, it prompted host Karen Faris to inquire about the
nature of these objects and how they functioned as characters. Green,
possessing a graduate degree in Archeology from William and Mary, talked about
how she uses layers to uncover meaning and dig deeper into the power that each
object is imbued with.
“During
the break in the program, people mingled, availed themselves of the
refreshments and took time to peruse the art on the walls. The sociability of
the audience created an ambiance drenched in camaraderie and love for Christine.”
So

Katherine
Weston, owner of A Different Path Gallery graciously donates space to this
literary series.
As
there were no planned art exhibits at this time, Karen Faris did a “pop-up” exhibit of her fabric art. Faris has been named one
of Cayuga Museum’s Emerging Artists for 2019 and her work will be on display at
the Auburn, NY Museum from June 20-July 14. Faris will also be doing a
performance of Aliens Like Us for the
“Just Poets Presents” series March 21st, 7pm at Nox 302 Goodman St N, Rochester, NY 14607.
And it should be noted that Karen is also an aaduna contributor and has read at
the “word, revisited” literary series sponsored by the Cayuga Museum of History and Art, Olive Trees, and aaduna.
