aaduna... READY TO DO THE WORK!

Truth be told, the opening phrase should be CONTINUING TO DO THE WORK.

While the self-imposed hiatus prompted a significant impact on the publication schedule that affected two issues, that momentary dis-alignment is over. The pending issue is being wrapped and we are looking forward to a release date within the next several weeks. So, what have we been up to?

aaduna further empowered its public reading programs with a major presentation at the Women’s Rights National Historic Park in historic Seneca Falls, NY that featured an afternoon of powerful poetry and performance by three women creatives. The journal continued its collaboration with the Cayuga Museum of History and Art and Olive Trees, a print zine, in the bi-weekly literary series, word, revisited. Interestingly, aaduna’s publisher will close out the 2019-20 season in November with a reading and multi-media presentation noting aspects of his life.  An emerging poet was presented at the Seward House Museum this past spring, and two women poets/writers are engaged to present a reading, and distinct writing workshop in the fall at the recently opened New York State Equal Rights Heritage Center in downtown Auburn, NY. In addition, aaduna is re-imagining its annual fundraiser with a gala event on Halloween at the Carriage House Theater as it transitions from its four-year Harlem Renaissance theme to a multi-hued investigation of other festive nuances of peoples represented in the African Diaspora. Within this panorama of activity, aaduna initiated the groundwork for “aaduna House” a proposed retreat facility for poets, writers, artists, musicians and other creative talent. The funding and site preparation proposal is finalized and will be part of a special Auburn government funding application cycle later this year.

In doing the work, we are pleased to kick-off promotions for the pending issue with an emerging talent that is creating a “buzz” throughout New York and other areas.

Arthur Hutchinson will grace an aaduna gallery in the next issue. His bold use of art and narrative creates visual work that inspires and motivates.
