Rock the Spirit of the Harlem Renaissance…close to 100 years later….It is NEVER too late to embrace pivotal legacies…and pertinent American history!

“We’re gonna rock this town, rock it
inside out, we’re gonna rock this town, make ‘em scream and shout...”
Well, truth be told, I was never a member
of “Stray Cats” (though I saw and chatted with band members at some airport
while waiting to board a plane, on one of my travels to some destination in the
world.) Their Eighties hit, “Rock This Town,” from their 1982 album “Built for
Speed,” was a top ten hit in the U.S.; reached the same standing in the UK in
1981, and influences aaduna’s 2018 plan for its annual fundraiser at the Carriage House Theater in Auburn, NY on May 24th.
aaduna
will
rock the house with intriguing words and interpretative music in the spirit of
the Harlem Renaissance as it continues its fundraiser tradition (the 4th,)
which is a special free-standing supplement to the bi-monthly “word, revisited”
literary series hosted by the Cayuga Museum, Olive Trees and aaduna.
So how will aaduna accomplish its singular statement of rocking “this town?”
Let’s start with the live music!
Joe Whiting and Terry Quill.
If you live in Auburn or the wider central
or northern New York upstate region, you already KNOW what to expect…fierce
saxophone playing with nuanced fingers dripping with musical history, caressing
the instrument’s keys with unbridled passion; improvisational riffs, searing
guitar, subtle ins and outs of musicianship on the strings that is testament to
diverse musicianship, fueled by melodious, captivating and memorable vocals to
make the inside out…Whiting
and Quill…Quill and Whiting…they will rock our
town.

If you have not yet heard this duo as individual musicians or as members of other bands, you are in for an exciting musical journey. Their interpretative renditions of the music that permeated subsequent decades after the Harlem Renaissance will be foot stomping, hand clapping possibly prompt even some solo, couple, or group dancing since the “Harlem” musical spirit will make you want to shake your hips and your _____!!!
Advance fundraiser tickets are $20/person
via Pay Pal or check. You also may purchase tickets from any of aaduna's board members.
Can’t commit right now?
Just know, on the night of the fundraiser,
the door admittance will be $25/person, cash only. A beer, wine, soft drinks and snacks cash bar
will be available. (All bar proceeds go to and exclusively benefit the Cayuga Museum and its work.)
So, don’t miss this event. Join aaduna
to “…rock this town….” Just remember, the last three fundraisers were sold out.
Bottom line…our headz-up?
